The Arts in Chemung County - An Enriching Experience
If you have an appreciation for art, a love of theater, or a passion for live concerts, Chemung County will not disappoint you. The Arnot Art Museum, in the heart of downtown Elmira, is home to a permanent collection of internationally recognized historic and contemporary representational art. For nine months each year, the American Gallery features highlights of the permanent collection. The Center Gallery houses the Egyptian collection augmented by loans from the world-renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art. 
The Clemens Center is the regions performing arts center since 1977. A restored 1925 Vaudeville theatre, the Clemens Center presents drama, music, and dance throughout the year. The Clemens Center´s full calendar of events features critically-acclaimed plays by Broadway touring companies, live concerts by orchestras and contemporary performing artists, modern and classical dance, and the country´s hottest stand-up comedians. Bill Cosby, Tom Jones, Penn & Teller, Carrot Top and Wayne Newton are just a few of the performers who have recently appeared at the Clemens Center. The Elmira Little Theater keeps the local theater experience exciting, inviting and alive! It features local actors who take to the stage to perform everything from major Broadway musicals to Shakespeare to popular dramatic productions. The Elmira College Theater Department showcases the talents of budding student actors and playwrights. 171 Cedar Arts Center, a dynamic, community multi-arts organization, involves children and adults in excellent professional instruction, performances, exhibitions and other arts experiences designed to develop skills and appreciation and to provide enjoyment. Every year, thousands of people from toddlers to seniors, explore the arts through classes, lessons, performances, recitals, exhibits and much, much more. Enjoy classes in music, ceramic tile making, African Dance and more. Wander through one of the ever-changing art exhibits by top artists of every medium. Or sit down to a season of solo and small ensemble performances, where artists reach you on a more personal level. The Summer Stage at Tag´s in Big Flats offers a Summer Concert Series not to be missed! Recently appearing national recording artists at Tag´s have included Styx, Barenaked Ladies, The Beach Boys, Hootie and The Blowfish, Lynard Skynard, Lonestar with Lee Ann Womack. The First Arena, in addition to being the "home rink" for Elmira´s own ice hockey team The Jackals, also hosts a wide variety of family shows and national performing artists including The Moody Blues, The Lippenzanier Stallions and The Harlem Globe Trotters. Bring along your favorite lawn chair, your dancing shoes, your family, your friends, or just YOU, and relax on a summer evening under the stars. All across Chemung County you will enjoy free live performances by polka, country and Dixieland jazz bands all summer at bandstand concerts in communities throughout Chemung County.
And don´t forget!. . .a number of fascinating world-class museums and attractions are located less than a 30-minute drive from Elmira. The Corning Museum of Glass, the Steuben factory, and The Rockwell Museum, to name a few!
