Leadership Chemung

Leadership Chemung is designed to develop individuals for future leadership roles in Chemung County and the Southern Tier by broadening their knowledge and awareness of the community, and honing their leadership skills. The program is celebrating more than three decades of inspiring future leaders in our community.

During this extensive educational experience, which runs from Fall through Spring each year, participants attend class sessions covering a variety of topics. Upon completion of the program, the Chamber holds a graduation ceremony for participants, sponsored by Chemung Canal Trust Company.

Applications are now being accepted for the Class of 2023. The program will begin this October with commencement taking place in May 2023. Sessions will take place from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Workforce Corning Community College Building located at 318 Madison Ave. Elmira, NY 14901

Classes, taught by local business leaders, have covered the following topics:

  • Listening Skills & Communication
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Leadership
  • Multi-generational Interaction
  • Workforce Trends in the Southern Tier
  • Coaching to Improve Employee & Team Performance
  • Leadership Intelligence
  • Community Challenges
  • Making Your Case
  • Technology and its Effects on Leadership
  • The Business of Education

Additionally, participants are asked to complete a group volunteer project for a local nonprofit organization. The volunteer projects are always a highlight of the program for their positive impact on the Chemung County community.

In the Chamber’s Lower Level Board Room, the history of Leadership Chemung is on display to celebrate those who have answered the call to lead, with photos of class members dating back to 1988.

Leadership Chemung is overseen by a committee of business community members, many of whom are graduates of the program, dedicated to continuously developing helpful and dynamic curriculum. For a roster of committee members, please click here.
